“Jackson, what is the status of events at present?”

US Secretary - Jackson Kirby

“Jack, all White House staff have been evacuated to the bunkers. The blast gates will be permanently sealed within 20 minutes – which means without presidential authorisation, there will be nobody entering or leaving the bunker compounds after then. All embassies have been sent to their respective bunkers. All submarines and Navy deployments have been ordered to their closest sea bunkers with as many supplies as possible. Most of the military personnel have been ordered to their closest bunkers, some may not get through – we will be updated shortly with the full status of all fleets. There is little that can be done for the average citizenry although we did receive reports from Wire-Serve that they have offered their own private bunker facilities to as many citizens as possible – we will have more information about this soon, too. The radiation is expected to hit the mainland within 30 minutes with a survival rate of only 3% on the very outskirts. We are at the start of armageddon, Sir.”

US President

“This is beyond comprehension. How could this have happened? Where were the signs? Although at this point that question is of no consequence, the real issue is how we as a human race will be able to survive this..please gather all highest rank staff to the assembly floor. We need to hear everyone's voices on this matter – see if there is anything at all that can be done. The stream is coming through now.”

"Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen. Now is a time of great urgency for not only America, but the whole world. As you are all well briefed, you know, for reasons yet explained, that there has been a massive global nuclear disaster. We have coordinated our efforts globally with all major states and have all government heads securely in place. We have to at this stage accept the worst and prepare for some way to continue life in the hope that we can some day again walk above-ground. We are, however, going to be experiencing calamity within months as the stored resources begin to dwindle. For this, we have our agri-teams burning the midnight oil. To talk more about that, I put you over to Jake Swarrenson. Please, Jake."

Advisor to President

"Thank you Mr President. We currently have a code red alert at all global positions. Policing of all storage is going to be a necessity above and below-ground until we can be 100% sure of the true ramifications of this situation. But, as you may gather, it may very well be pointless. We have our robot drones now scouting the various hot-spots and the messages coming back are the worst we could expect. Radiation is not only higher than expected, but more dense, meaning that normally - even if we only had to wait 2 years – it could possibly subside, but at these densities the expected length of time is between 20 and 30 years before humans can venture into the open air again. And given that bleak measurement, it gets further bleak when you take the effects of this on the environment – which our best estimates show will begin to falter within 1 year anyway, meaning every food source will be completely contaminated, basically removing any possibility for survival anyway,” Jake relayed grimly. “There is one avenue that we also have yet to fully understand and that is the Wire-serve proposition. Apparently they had begun preparing a number of test self-sufficient bunker-style living units. We don't know the numbers, but the first reports coming from them state that most people will find a place to stay. While we know it is impossible to house billions of people, at this stage anything is better than nothing. The CEO of Wire-Serve, Jacob Edison is going to join us within 5 minutes for a direct briefing of their offering.”
